Heritage Road Trip – Day 7

Day six started great and ended up both good and bad. Today started off cold, powerless and littered with downed trees. With the whole valley without power, I'm eating out of the ice chest once more. Still, there's a lot to be said for the Barn's recipe for smoked turkey, Swiss and cream cheese on sourdough even if I can't heat it up.

I bebopped up the curvy, 35mph coast roads, avoiding debris to Cape Meares and its lighthouse. This one was one of my very first lighthouses. I love them. If I could get a job keeping one and do my writing watching over the Pacific Ocean, I'd be a happy camper. (Though I might end up a mad drunkard like Lampy for Pete's Dragon.)

After some ocean gazing at the lighthouse, I hiked inland to the Octopus Tree.  I haven't seen the old armor since my pre-adolescent days. Honestly, I remember it being bigger.

Anyway, having buzzed by one of my formative homes and the cliff-side house my father enjoyed solo sometime later, I am going offline for a couple day sabbatical with my mother, the uncle who introduced me to books, and several of my half siblings.

I could regale you with the calamities about to ensue, but I'll save it for when I resume the HRT adventure a few days later...
