The A-Teams

The Author Teams

I'm here for you, my reader, but that doesn't mean I can't use a little help.
(Okay, maybe a lot of help - not all of it psychiatric.)

Here's a list of ways you can get involved:

Reader's Help Checklist

As a reader, you need authors to fill your world with endless pages of adventure. Authors need you too, maybe even more. Here is alist of things you can do today to help any author whose work you've enjoyed:

  1. Read our books and enjoy them. (That's why we wrote them.)
  2. Talk about the books. Tell your friends. Tell the world. Share you opinion so that other readers can find new books to enjoy.
  3. Follow authors on social media and say hello. (Writing is a lonely profession)
  4. Share! Reviews, posts, sales, pretty much everything is fair game. The more shares the merrier. (If you're also a writer, it's especially important to share book/sale announcements of your fellows when you see them. We're a community that thrives on Quid Pro Quo.)
  5. Review the books you read. Of these ways to help, this is one of the things you can do that we appreciate the most. You don't have to gush and you don't have to write a book report, just a few honest words about your opinion. While you're at it, copy that review and drop it on other retailers (Amazon, Kobo, Nook, Apple, etc), review sites like Goodreads and post it in your social media.
  6. Click "Like" on book and author pages, posts and ads. A single click can spread the word about your favorite authors.
  7. Mark reviews as helpful/unhelpful to boost/degrade book reviews you agree/disagree with to add weight to your opinion of a book.
  8. MOST IMPORTANT - READ MORE BOOKS!

Join my Street Team

Opinionated? Love my work? Want to be part of my success? Like getting free and early access to books before they come out?

If you've said yes to these, then you're probably well suited to being a member of my street team. Street teams are vitally important to spreading the word about an upcoming title. They're the cheeleaders that make a difference between a lackluster launch and a release that demands a sequel.

Being part of the team carries some responsibilities:

  • Opting in to recieve street team emails and communications
  • Staying up to date on the related book series.
  • Reading your free book copy in a timely manner
  • Posting reviews on launch day.

But it also means:

  • Getting behind the scenes access to me and unpublished work
  • Access to special Discord channels/Facebook groups
  • Invites to occasional private gatherings
  • Special street team exclusive swag

Think you're the right fit to be part of the team?

Let's chat about it.

Join my Reader Team

Love to correct people? Hate typos? Ever wish a story went a different direction? Is Hermione Granger a kindred spirit?

If so, you might be right for one or more ranks in my reader teams.

Reader teams are as or more vital than street teams, just in a different way. Each tier team performs a function that helps me (and other writers) produce the best possible books. Each role only gets a set window to read and report back, so reader team members must be responsible to prevent holding up the process.

Alpha Readers:

  • Get the book pretty much right after the first draft.
  • Read through the mess looking for plot errors, continuity mistakes and character inconsistencies.
  • Point out missing ideas or confusing descriptions
  • Make suggestions about anything they think would add more awesome to the story line.
  • Ask lots of questions to help me think about the story in new and different ways.
  • They DO NOT correct spelling, grammar or punctuation
  • Submit their findings ON or BEFORE their due dates.

Beta Readers:

  • Get a cleaner version of the book after first edits.
  • Read through looking for plot errors, continuity mistakes and character inconsistencies.
  • Point out missing ideas or confusing descriptions
  • Make suggestions about anything they think would add more awesome to the story line.
  • Ask lots of questions to help me think about the story in new and different ways.
  • Comment on formatting issues.
  • They ALSO correct spelling, grammar and punctuation
  • Submit their findings ON or BEFORE their due dates.

Proof Readers:

  • Generally get a physical proof copy shipped to them with a return envelope.
  • Mark up the physical copy with a bright pen/highlighter color, using flags or dog ears to draw attention to pages that need to be reviewed.
  •  Mark formatting issues either by circle, highlighting or using standard proofreader marks - reader's choice.
  • Mark spelling, grammar and punctuation issues.
  • Submit their findings ON or BEFORE their due dates.
  • Get their proof reading copy returned signed by me.

ALL TEAM MEMBERS get their names  (generally first names) listed in the acknowledgements section of the books they work on.

Like the street team, reader team members get:

  • Getting behind the scenes access to me and unpublished work
  • Access to special Discord channels/Facebook groups
  • Invites to occasional private gatherings
  • Special reader team exclusive swag

Reviewers, Bloggers & Influencers

I'm in the process of revamping how I handle these. In the meantime, I do accept review applications through a service called Tomoson.

Sharp Eyes

Found an error? (Nobody's perfect.)

Despite all of the layers of readers and editors, errors still manage to creep through to the final product.  Just because it happens doesn't mean we're willing to just accept it. If you're the first person to help me correct those errors, I'll happily fix the mistake and add your name into the acknowledgements section of the revised release.
