Heritage Road Trip – Day 5

Day 5 started off in the fabulous Wild Bill's Irma inn and tavern.  I've had problems keeping track of days since my life was converted to 18-hour days on a fast attack nuclear submarine. On a trip without my best friend to keep me on track, I didn't realize Day 5 was actually Veteran's Day.

J'm not really one to take pictures of a meal, but after ignoring the server's advice not to order the full order of biscuits and gravy, I needed proof that even a hefty traveller couldn't eat so much food. I was again surprised when she comped the meal as a thank you for my service.

Day off to a fine start, I stopped in a store to reload my road snacks, ice chest and diet pepsi supplies. For some reason, google maps wouldn't show me the route I wanted to use to get to Old Faithful. Stubborn to the end, I headed on the route I'd committed to memory only to learn Google was smarter than me.

Snowfall closed the eastern gate into Yellowstone National Park. The necessary detour took me far north back into the reaches of Montana. The detour also meant going into Washington State (not on my itinerary). Snow kicked in late afternoon, leaving me to pretend to drive at lightspeed through thivk flurries.

In the end, I aborted stopping at Old Faithful, unfortunately losing  a hotel stay in Idaho that luckily had been paid with a perk free night stay. Instead, I got my best friend an extra keychain and stayed the night just south of the Oregon/Washington border.
